The Office of Campus Computing at USF St. Petersburg campus is ready to activate its contigency plans in the event of an emergency, such as a natural disaster or campus evacuation. Campus Computing has uniquely designed USFSP's communication infrastructure to be modular, mobile and, most importantly, redundant.
As part of our ongoing collaboration with USF Polytechnic, Campus Computing can now relocate core services, and provide emergency email and telephone communication for the USFSP community during an on-campus emergency.
Existing campus technology and infrastructure is currently capable of multiple uses. Below is a summary of our existing notification systems and services, along with important links for emergency and weather-related emergency planning.
REVERSE 911
USF St. Petersburg is a REVERSE 911 certified site. Our REVERSE 911 notification system can theoretically call up to 48 students every minute, up to a maximum of 2,880 calls per hour, to notify them of a campus emergency. Our REVERSE 911 telephone directory contains over 6,700 contacts. The student directory is sorted by their declaration of college: Arts and Sciences, College of Business, College of Education or undeclared.
REVERSE 911 can place calls to students through on-campus phones, such as student housing phones, or through home and mobile phones according to a their phone number on record in OASIS.
Enhanced 911
Enhanced 911, or e911, is available on our residence hall phone and office phone networks, and is registered with the Pinellas County e911 system. Using a reverse telephone directory, the e911 calling system can automatically associate a call with a physical address and room number.
Florida Interoperability Network (FIN)
Provides secure interagency and interoperable communications for Florida’s entire community of public safety users with dissimilar systems, enabling more timely and effective emergency responses to critical events daily.
Voicemail
The USFSP Cisco Unity voicemail system can instantly send a voice mail message to all office phones.
Building Access Control
Our electronic Building Access Control locking system is currently installed on over 120 exterior or interior doors. "Lockdown" mode prevents all access card users from getting into buildings, offices or storage rooms, and is controlled from three different locations, including USFSP Police dispatch. The current status of each door is available, even if it is being propped open.
Video Surveillance
Our video surveillance and CCTV system is installed in multiple buildings. It includes a total of over 200 cameras, all of which are visible at the USFSP Police dispatch room. Video content is stored for up to 30 days.
VPN Remote Access
Campus Computing provides remote access to the campus network through a Virtual Private Network. Our VPN allows your home or mobile computer to appear to be on the campus network, as if it were connected on campus. In the event of an emergency, faculty and staff will be able to retrieve files, connect to personal drives, and access USF intranet and web content as if they were on campus.
